Where Most Buyers Begin
The Active 100A is brand new for 2026 and didn’t exist in last year's lineup. Ford added it to bring the Explorer's entry price down to $38,465 while keeping the features that matter most, including a 13.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Ford Co-Pilot360, and a Class III Tow Package rated for up to 5,000 lbs. The standard Active adds heated front seats, a power liftgate, and active noise cancellation for around $2,100 more. Both trims include second-row captain's chairs, which matters if you are fitting car seats in the back.
The Sporty Side
The ST-Line keeps the same efficient 2.3L EcoBoost engine as the Active but wraps it in blacked-out exterior accents, red interior stitching, and a 10-speaker B&O Sound System. The Tremor is new for 2026 and replaces the Timberline trim, bringing the most serious off-road hardware Ford has ever put on an Explorer. It comes with a suspension lift that raises it higher than a standard Explorer, 18-inch all-terrain tires, underbody skid plates, and a limited-slip rear differential that splits power between the wheels so you keep moving when one side loses grip. The optional 3.0L EcoBoost V6 pushes output to 400 horsepower, giving you genuine trail capability without giving up three rows of seating.
The Top of the Lineup
The Platinum and ST share a price range but serve very different drivers. The Platinum runs on the 2.3L engine exclusively for 2026 and delivers the most refined interior in the range, with massaging leather seats, a panoramic fixed glass roof, and BlueCruise hands-free highway driving standard. The ST is the performance pick, with the 3.0L V6 engine standard, a sport-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes, BlueCruise, and a hands-free liftgate that swings open when you walk up to the back of the vehicle.
